The therapist teaches a child’s caregiver how to support the child’s skill development by using listening, language, and speech development strategies in home routines. The caregiver does not have to set aside extra time to “do therapy” at home. They are able to be a teacher for their child within their daily happenings. This approach empowers caregivers and maximizes skill growth for the child, as caregivers are each child’s best and most important teacher!

Aural rehabilitation refers to auditory/listening skill development and the growth of speech and language as it relates to these skills. It can also include the development of social skills and self-advocacy skills.

Auditory Verbal Therapy (AVT) is a specialized therapy approach for individuals with hearing loss that aims to improve their ability to use their hearing to develop speech and language skills. The goals of AVT are to enhance listening skills, develop speech and language comprehension, improve auditory attention and memory, and foster communication and social interaction.
To become a certified Auditory Verbal Therapist, a therapist must complete 3-5 years of mentorship and pass a rigorous exam demonstrating deep knowledge of this type of intervention, on top of their masters degree in speech-language pathology. Our SLP is a certified Auditory Verbal Therapist.
